10. USE OF COOKIES

Cookies are stored on your computer when you use our website. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your hard disk and assigned to the browser you are using and through which certain information flows to the place that sets the cookie. Cookies cannot execute programs or transfer viruses to your computer. They are used to make the website more user-friendly and effective overall. We also use cookies to identify you for subsequent visits if you have an account with us. Otherwise you would have to log in again for each visit.

This website uses the following types of cookies, the scope and function of which are explained below:

10.1 Transient cookies

These cookies are automatically deleted when you close the browser. These include session cookies in particular. These store a so-called session ID, with which various requests from your browser can be assigned to the joint session. This allows your computer to be recognized when you return to our website. The session cookies are deleted when you log out or close the browser.

10.2 Persistent cookies

These cookies are automatically deleted after a specified period, which may vary depending on the cookie. You can delete the cookies in the security settings of your browser at any time.

10.3 Flash Cookies

The Flash cookies used are not recorded by your browser, but by your Flash plug-in. We also use HTML5 storage objects, which are stored on your end device. These objects store the required data independently of the browser you use and do not have an automatic expiration date. If you do not want Flash cookies to be processed, you must install an appropriate add-on, e.g. “Better Privacy” for Mozilla Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/betterprivacy/) or the Adobe Flash Killer cookie for Google Chrome. You can prevent the use of HTML5 storage objects by setting your browser to private mode. We also recommend that you regularly delete your cookies and browser history manually.

10.4 Prevention of cookies

You can configure your browser settings according to your wishes and, for example, refuse to accept third-party cookies or all cookies. We would like to point out that you may then not be able to use all the functions of this website.

10.5 Legal basis and storage period

The legal bases for possible processing of personal data and their storage duration vary and are presented in the following sections.

11. WEBSITE ANALYSIS

For the purposes of analyzing and optimizing our websites, we use services that are described below. For example, we can analyze how many users visit our site, which information is most in demand or how users find the offer. Among other things, we collect data on the website from which a data subject came to a website (so-called referrer), which subpages of the website were accessed or how often and for how long a subpage was viewed. This helps us to design and improve our services in a user-friendly way. The data collected is not used to personally identify individual users. Anonymous or at most pseudonymous data is collected. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1)f GDPR.

11.1 Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”) on the legal basis of overriding legitimate interest (analysis of website usage). We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google for this purpose.
When our website is accessed, a connection to Google’s servers is established via software and data is transmitted to Google servers, some of which are located in the USA. Google Analytics also uses cookies to store information about the website user and to analyze the use of the website by website users.
This website uses the “IP anonymization” function. As a result, your IP address will be shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and thus anonymized. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there.
According to Google, Google will use the data collected for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.

Google may also transfer this information to third parties, where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Detailed information on the handling of user data by Google Analytics can be found in the Privacy policy of Google and Google Analytics.

11.2 Deactivate Google Analytics

You can generally prevent the collection of your user data by Google Analytics on all websites by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.
You can prevent the collection of your user data by Google Analytics on this website only by clicking on the following link. An opt-out cookie will be set to prevent your data from being collected on future visits to this website. Deactivate Google Analytics.

12. ADVERTISING

We use cookies for marketing purposes in order to address our users with interest-based advertising. In addition, we use cookies to limit the likelihood of an advertisement being displayed and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising measures. This information may also be shared with third parties, such as ad networks. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1)a and f GDPR. There is a legitimate interest in direct marketing for the purposes pursued with the data processing. You have the right to object at any time to the processing of your data for the purpose of such advertising. For this purpose, we provide you with opt-out options for the respective services below. Alternatively, you can prevent the setting of cookies in your browser settings.

12.1 Google Dynamic Remarketing

On our website, we use the dynamic remarketing function of Google Adwords, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland
“Google”). The technology enables us to place automatically generated, target group-oriented advertisements after your visit to our website. The ads are based on the products and services that you clicked on during your last visit to our website.

Google uses cookies to create interest-based ads. Cookies are small text files that are stored in your browser when you visit our website. Google usually stores information such as your web request, IP address, browser type, browser language, date and time of your request. This information is only used to assign the web browser to a specific computer. It cannot be used to identify a person.
If you do not want to receive user-based advertising from Google, you can deactivate the placement of advertisements using the Google ad settings.
You can find more information on how Google uses cookies in Google’s privacy policy.

We also use DoubleClick, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland “Google”). DoubleClick uses cookies to place user-based advertisements. The cookies recognize which ad has already been placed in your browser and whether you have accessed a website via a placed ad. The cookies do not collect any personal information and cannot be linked to such information.

12.2 DoubleClick by Google

If you do not want this, you can prevent the cookies required for these technologies from being saved, for example via your browser settings. In this case, your visit will not be included in the user statistics. You also have the option of selecting the types of Google ads or deactivating interest-based ads on Google via the ad settings. Alternatively, you can deactivate the use of cookies by third-party providers by calling up the deactivation help of the network advertising initiative. However, we and Google will continue to receive statistical information about how many users have visited this site and when. If you do not wish to be included in these statistics either, you can prevent this with the help of additional programs for your browser (e.g. with the Ghostery add-on).

12.3 Google Adwords and conversion tracking

In order to draw attention to our services, we place Google AdWords ads and use Google Conversion Tracking for the purpose of personalized, interest-based and location-based online advertising.

The ads are displayed according to search queries on websites in the Google advertising network. We have the option of combining our ads with specific search terms. With the help of cookies, we can display ads based on a user’s previous visits to our website.

When you click on an ad, Google places a cookie on the user’s computer. Further information on the cookie technology used can also be found in Google’s notes on website statistics and in the privacy policy.

With the help of this technology, Google and we as the customer receive information that a user has clicked on an ad and has been redirected to our websites. The information obtained in this way is used exclusively for statistical analysis to optimize ads. We do not receive any information with which visitors can be personally identified. The statistics provided to us by Google include the total number of users who have clicked on one of our ads and, if applicable, whether they were redirected to a page on our website with a conversion tag. Based on these statistics, we can see which search terms were clicked on our ad particularly often and which ads lead to the user contacting us via the contact form.

However, we and Google continue to receive statistical information on how many users have visited this site and when. If you do not wish to be included in these statistics either, you can prevent this with the help of additional programs for your browser (for example with the Ghostery add-on).

13. Social Media

13.1 Share buttons

On some pages, our website has buttons for sharing page content on the social media platforms Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Google Plus, Xing and LinkedIn. The buttons are ideally designed to protect the personal data of our website visitors, as the script (computer program) behind the buttons does not collect or process any personal data. Precise information about the function of the buttons is provided by Heise Verlag as the publisher of the IT magazine c’t and as the developer of the buttons.

Website visitors who wish to share our page will be taken directly to the “Share” pages of the respective social media platforms. Only there will the scripts required to share the page content be loaded. The business and data protection conditions agreed by the website visitor with the respective social media platforms then apply. The respective platforms Facebook, Google Plus, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter provide detailed information about this.

14. DATA TRANSMISSION

Your data will not be transferred to third parties unless we are legally obliged to do so, or the transfer of data is necessary for the performance of the contractual relationship or you have previously expressly consented to the transfer of your data.

External service providers and partner companies such as our marketing agency, the operator of our application portal or our hosting service provider will only receive your data if this is necessary for the provision of our website and services or for maintenance. In these cases, however, the scope of the data transmitted is limited to the necessary minimum, insofar as access is required. Insofar as our service providers come into contact with your personal data, we ensure that they comply with the provisions of the data protection laws in the same way as part of order processing in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. Please also note the respective data protection notices of the providers. The respective service provider is responsible for the content of external services, whereby we check the services for compliance with the legal requirements within the scope of reasonableness.

We attach great importance to processing your data within the EU/EEA. However, we may use service providers who process data outside the EU/EEA. In these cases, we ensure that an adequate level of data protection is established at the recipient before your personal data is transferred. This means that a level of data protection comparable to the standards within the EU is achieved via EU standard contracts or an adequacy decision, such as the EU Privacy Shield.

15. DATA SECURITY

We have taken extensive technical and operational precautions to protect your data from accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorized persons. Our security procedures are regularly reviewed and adapted to technological progress.
